6 Tips to Ace your Science Fair from a Winner
Have you ever been to a science fair? Or do you have a science fair, which you have no idea what to do? I just had mine today. My teacher told me why I had got in and won it…. She said that she was that old and never even had the idea to do something like this. Now if you’re majoring in science or simply interested in science, here’s how to do your project, and somehow my day went.
Now what
did I really do for my science project? I made a mars rover- Curiosity. I did
an idea that I thought no one else even thought. Now it is important nobody
does the same thing as you that you find on YouTube. My advice? Quit YouTube….
If you’re searching for what to do, I recommend you hit old school and follow
the encyclopedia like how I did for Curiosity, referring Britannica
Encyclopedia. Now if you want to really be innovative in this, choose which
topic in science you want. Like I chose quantum physics because I really love
it. Now you can choose something that you like and will MOST probably major
in…. Like if you like computers, you can always do something like programming
in Python.
Getting
started, productivity is really low…. We have to have at least four months to
get started or else if you’re here for some quick and easy money. You can
always do it one week. Plan a budget, how much do you want to spend? If you’re
broke, don’t worry. That is what any science fair would like- BEST OUT OF
WASTE. I tried to keep my project Curiosity grounded, but I must have spent
some bucks but I made it look like I am a cheapskate by making it out of
cardboard and stuff.
Even
with a normal person’s budget. What should you buy? Integrate something normal
with your project. Like me, I integrated my project with Minecraft. Now based
on the criteria for a winning model, follow S.T.E.M! Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math. Integrate technology. You can put cameras and stuff like
that. If you’re willing to go all out on this because it gives extra credit.
You can get stuff like mini labeller which makes the project interactive.
Next is
building it. Now go for the crazy. Embrace the cringe! Anything can be possible
if you have money. Now for my project, it was really hard to integrate and make
everything function. Like I had a funnel and two cups, in which I should be
able to put soil in the funnel and it should come in both of the two cups at
once. What engineering will do that? So embrace the cringe and go to the
cringiest place you can find- a plumber’s shop…. When I visited a hardware
shop, experimented a lot, what structure is needed. We went over Y-shape
elbows, and finally used a pipe line a T-shaped elbow.
That is
it. You get a science presentation! But what about it’s purpose? Why do we
study science? To apply it in everyday life…. You need to know how your idea
can be integrated in everyday life, like I integrated mine with Kintsugi,
Japanese words, Minecraft and Brain rot (very weird things). Have that
displayed on your board. Your board should always be a tri-fold board and never
a chart.
You can
also keep additional things there on your stall to show application of your
project with daily life. Like I did with an abacus, chessboard or textbook. So
here are some ideas you can do for the project in case youre still confused-
· The Real
Application of the Neurons integrated with computer science. Create python code
and explain neurons functioning sending messages from axon to nucleus.
· Replica
of CT Brain Scanner. Make a small cardboard thingy.
· AI
Physical Robots Model.
· Intelligent
Automatic Medical Check Up booth.
Basically
that’s my ideas. Follow for more.
